Power failure disrupts railway operations in UK

A power failure at the Manchester Rail Operating Centre, near Ashburys station, has disrupted railway transportation in the northern United Kingdom.
Reports said the disruption has led to cancellation of trips at Bradford Interchange, with Leeds, Dewsbury, Brighouse, and Manchester Victoria line also affected.
Transport for Greater Manchester, a local public transport agency in North-West England, said the disruption occurred before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The power failure reportedly affected a communications centre in the region, including the control room and signals required to operate the railway safely.
“No trains due to signal failure across Manchester,” a public notice by the operating agency said.
The UK Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, posted on X that the disruption is expected to last all through Thursday, advising passengers to factor the development in their journeys.
“I am sorry to hear passengers in the North West are affected by a power outage, with trains cancelled or delayed.
“I am receiving regular updates while Network Rail works to resolve the issue. Disruption is expected during the rest of the day, so please check before you travel,” Ms Alexander said.
