Taraba State government has unveiled Climate Change Policy and Action Plan 2026 to tackle growing climate change impacts and build sustainability.

The event held in Jalingo, the state capital on Friday, was attended by Governor Agbu Kefas and accompanied by the state commissioner for environment and climate change, Aisha Barde.

Mr Kefas noted that the policy was necessary to mitigate the growing climate change impacts on agriculture and communities.

“The effects of climate change are already affecting agriculture and communities. Unpredictable rainfall and drying rivers could have serious consequences for farmers and residents if urgent action is not taken,” the governor stated.

Mr Kefas stressed on collaboration, urging the federal government, the national council on climate change and other stakeholders to work with the state to implement the policy and action plan.

Ms Barde also noted that climate action was a shared mandate requiring collective commitment, coordination and sustained action.

According to the commissioner, the policy will provide a framework for building a state that is environmentally sustainable, economically prosperous and resilient to the challenges of changing climate.

Ms Barde lauded the support of Natural Eco Capital, the Society for Planet and Prosperity and the African Climate Foundation towards the development of the policy.

The event underscored the administration’s dedication to implementing strategic climate actions that safeguard vulnerable communities, strengthen environmental governance and promote sustainable economic growth across the state.

The newly launched policy and action plan provides a comprehensive framework for climate adaptation, mitigation, and green economic transformation, positioning the state as a forward-looking leader in climate governance within the country.
