Tenerife striker De Miguel dies after tackle by Andorra goalkeeper
Spanish football club, CD Tenerife, has confirmed the death of forward Jesus de Miguel Alameda, following a tackle during a match on Monday by FC Andorra’s goalkeeper, Jesus Owono.
Owono ran towards the centre circle to clear a long ball when his knee apparently collided with De Miguel. The striker then fell to the ground, unconscious before he was taken by ambulance from Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López to hospital.
He did not survive the tackle.
The club said, “Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome.
“The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.”
Tenerife said earlier in the day that the player’s “medical condition has worsened neurologically”, and on Monday disclosed that he was “admitted to the ICU at the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, stable despite the severity of his condition”.
If charges are pressed against the goalkeeper, he may answer for involuntary manslaughter, if the investigation establishes that his tackle exceeded the limits of the risks acceptable in playing football and if it amounted to gross negligence that directly caused the opponent’s death.
According to Article 142 of the Spanish Penal Code, anyone who causes a person’s death through gross negligence will be jailed between one and four years, while a death caused by less serious negligence attracts three to 18 months.
Tenerife and Andorra were playing 2-2 some minutes into stoppage time when the collision occurred.
“With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife,” said Andorra.
Former Barcelona star Gerard Pique, who co-owns Andorra, and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe also expressed their grief.
