U.S. Midterm Polls: APC should expect similar shift in 2027, says Accord Party

The Accord Party has predicted a major political shift in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) should expect an outcome similar to that of the recent U.S. midterm elections.
The Lagos State chairman of the party, Dele Oladeji, disclosed this in an interview in Lagos on Thursday.
The Democratic Party regained control of Congress from the ruling Republican Party in the U.S. midterm elections held on Tuesday.
Mr Oladeji said the outcome reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the Donald Trump-led government.
He said the development offered a strong indication of how growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party could influence electoral outcomes in Nigeria.
He added that Nigerians were increasingly discontented with what he described as unpopular government policies and the prevailing economic hardship.
According to him, the growing demand for political change and citizens’ determination to make deliberate voting choices were becoming global trends.
“The outcome of the victory of the Democratic Party in the U.S. is a reflection of the rejection of the Donald Trump-led government. So to say the majority of Americans are tilting towards a new change, that is exactly what is going to happen in the 2027 general election.
“There are going to be a lot of shifts, a huge paradigm shift in the political architecture, in the sense that a lot of legislative seats will be won by the opposition party.
“This new awareness about intentional voting is a global issue; it is not just in the U.S. It was displayed in the Anambra governorship election on Aug. 15, 2026, and it will again be replayed nationwide in Nigeria,” he said.
Mr Oladeji said the Accord Party was positioning itself to benefit from the anticipated political realignment by winning legislative seats at both federal and state levels.
“So in Accord Party, we look forward to winning legislative seats both at the federal and at the state levels.
“So it is a good sign and it is a sign that portrays the impending political change that is coming to Nigeria,” he said.
He expressed optimism that growing dissatisfaction with the APC-led administration would translate into increased support for opposition parties in the 2027 elections.
