The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Bauchi State chapter, says its one-day training is aimed at sensitising women to the dangers of extremism and its early detection.

The chairperson of the association, Lami Hassan, said on Thursday that the training was a step-down programme organised by FOMWAN in Bauchi.

She said the aim was to equip women with key information on extremism, its early signs and strategies to overcome the act, especially among adolescents and children.

“Women are often victims of extremism, particularly during conflicts, making it necessary to equip them with skills to identify its early signs.

“Extremism is not limited to religion but can manifest in different aspects of human beliefs and activities,” she added.

She said upbringing and environmental influences could contribute to extremist tendencies.

Ms Hassan expressed the hope that participants would share the knowledge with other women.

In his presentation, Hassan Lawal, a representative of Darul Andalus, Nigeria, highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue in promoting peaceful coexistence.

He described interfaith dialogue as an opportunity for people of different religious beliefs to understand and accommodate one another.

According to him, the training was designed to promote tolerance and ensure peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religious differences.

“Whether Christian, Muslim or adherent of traditional religion, we are all part of the same society.

“Although we have different religious beliefs and perspectives, our differences should unite us rather than divide us.

“We must, therefore, work together to promote unity and peaceful coexistence in the country,” he said.
