D’Tigress beat Senegal, qualify for AfroBasket finals

Defending Afrobasket champions, D’Tigress of Nigeria, beat Senegal to qualify for the finals of this year’s competition.

After going 2-0 in the group stage with blow out wins against Mozambique (67-50) and Angola (85-65), the champions were confident entering the knockout stages of the competition.

D’Tigresses got another dominant win over the Ivory Coast (72-56) in the quarter finals before coming into today’s game with the aim of qualifying for back to back finals. Head coach Otis Hughley went with a starting lineup of Adaora Elonu, Odera Chidom, Ezinne Kalu, Victoria Macaulay and Ify Ibekwe.

The game started quickly for Nigeria as they took the first quarter with a 22-11 point lead.

The lead was extended to 45-31 by the half. The 3rd quarter ended 60-44 and Nigeria held off a late rally to end the game 73-63 Nigeria will take on Mali in the finals on Sunday.
