The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says Ondo can be better secured using the private security guards the corps trains for companies in the state.

“In Ondo State, we have about 4,000 personnel of private security companies. If you add their services with what the NSCDC does, we can get a better, secure Ondo State.

“For now, we have trained about 100 personnel of those companies and we shall train other batches until the entire 4,000 personnel are trained,” state commandant of the NSCDC, Hammed Abodunrin said on Sunday during a security training in Akure.

Speaking with journalists in Akure on Sunday at the end of the exercise, where 100 guards and employees of security companies were trained on security delivery, the Ondo state commandant said the training was part of NSCDC’s mandate.

Mr Abodunrin said part of the mandate of the NSCDC was to supervise, licence, monitor, train and register private guard companies, adding that the private security guards were trained in intelligence gathering, disaster management and first aid treatment.

He directed unregistered private security outfits to register with the NSCDC and called on those already registered to always renew their licences at their expiration, warning that unregistered private security companies risk offending the law.

“It is illegal for anybody to practise without registration. That is why the NSCDC seals offices of illegal private security companies.

“Those hiring the services of private guards companies should verify their legitimacy with the NSCDC before engaging them,” the state commandant warned.
