The Abia government says it has started discussing with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) how the government will get directly involved in distributing power in Umuahia, the state capital, and its environs.

Governor Alex Otti disclosed this Thursday night during the February edition of the monthly media parley in Umuahia.

Mr Otti said his administration was doing a lot in the power sector but admitted that it was not a problem that could be solved overnight.

He also said the government was giving all the necessary support to the Geometric Power Plant for the Aba power project.

The Abia governor said his administration was not sleeping but working hard to ensure that the goal was achieved, adding that the details would emerge in due course.

The governor further disclosed that Aba’s power would improve drastically by March, from its less than 15 megawatts current capacity to over 50 megawatts.

He said, “Hopefully with the pipelines that have been laid and gas supplied to Geometric, the three turbines that will generate 141 megawatts of power would come on stream. When that happens, I have no doubt that Aba will begin to enjoy an uninterruptible power supply.

“So, we are very much on top of these issues and we advise that people should just be patient.”

The governor also said the government was working to reactivate the long-abandoned Ulonna Farm Settlement, oil palm and rubber plantations, promising the model would soon be out.
