Abuja court dismisses charges against 4 #EndSARS protesters

Fourur of six #EndSARS protesters in court for protesting in front of the National Assembly complex, have been discharged and acquited by an Abuja court.
The court discharged the four protesters after Henry Akwaji, the defence lawyer requested that the case be dismissed following the refusal of the prosecution team to show up at the court on Monday.
Agreeing to the defence panel’s plea, the court dismissed the case due to a lack of diligent prosecution, on the part of the prosecution panel.
“Defendants, Olutosin Adeniji, Abdusalam Zubarur, Paul Akinwumi, and Devour Chomo are discharged and the complaint against them dismissed,” magistrate Musa Eneye ruled.
The court however fixed March 24 to rule on the case of the other two defendants who were absent for health reasons.
Recall that youths had in October 2020, taken to the street to protest against the inhumane treatment meted on Nigerians by the recently disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force.
The protest which lasted for about three weeks was however hijacked by hoodlums who wreaked havoc on both government and publicly owned facilities across the country.
Though the government pledged sweeping police reforms, cases of police high handedness and outright oppression are still being reported by citizens.
