Accept defeat; retire to Dubai, Fayose mocks Atiku
Former Ekiti Governor and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Ayodele Fayose, says the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, should accept defeat and return to Dubai.
Mr Atiku had travelled to Dubai shortly after the 2019 election, which he lost to sitting President Muhammadu Buhari. He returned to Nigeria close to the 2023 election to beat Mr Fayose, Nyesom Wike and others to clinch the PDP presidential ticket.
“Our candidate, H.E. Atiku Abubakar (aka ‘Atiku is coming’), should accept defeat in maturity and retire peacefully to Dubai. At this juncture, may I say good night and goodbye to all you represent,” Mr Fayose said.
The former governor made this statement in a tweet on Monday, while Saturday’s presidential election results were being announced.
The PDP and Labour Party agents walked out of the result collation venue, International Conferences Centre, on Monday after protesting against INEC’s refusal to upload results on its server.
By results announced so far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is leading Mr Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party by a wide margin.
