Adamu Garba, a former senator who once declared his intention to run for president, has joined northern Nigerian extremists in circulating pro-Iran propaganda amid the U.S.-Israel alliance against the Islamic republic.

Checks on Mr Garba’s X page showed multiple pro-Iran posts, including videos from as far back as 2023, misrepresented as recent attacks in March to glorify Iran and project it as winning the war against American and Israeli forces.

On Sunday evening, Mr Garba uploaded a 14-second video, claiming that Iranian missiles had damaged the electricity grid in Tel Aviv, leaving the region in a blackout. However, the footage dates back to 2023 when Israel cut power to Gaza during its military response to the festival attack that left hundreds of party-goers dead or abducted.

“Tel Aviv is total darkness after Iranian strikes destroyed their electricity grid,” the former Nigerian senator claimed.

In another video, Mr Garba said Iran pounded Tel Aviv with new waves of missiles. The video was not recent. It was a 2024 footage.

In a post, Mr Garba alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed a “ceasefire” that Tehran firmly rejected as “not happening”.

The U.S. president has repeatedly demanded Iran’s total surrender, warning that any resistance would be met with force.

In April 2022, Mr Garba announced he would run for president on the platform of the ruling APC and begged his supporters to crowdfund the N100 million nomination form.

After raising more than N80 million, the former senator withdrew his bid without refunding the contributions from his supporters.

He joined the Young Progressives Party and later returned to the APC to support President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy.

Last July, the politician expressed concern about Northerners leaving the APC to join the newly launched coalition, the African Democratic Congress.
