Army rescues two kidnap victims in Kwara

The Nigerian Army says troops of the Joint Task Force, North Central, under Operation Savannah Shield, have rescued two kidnapped victims in Kwara State.
The Army disclosed this on Saturday, stating that the victims were rescued during a patrol to Gidan Dogo Ekaa on June 3, 2026.
“On 3 June 2026, during an aggressive fighting patrol to Gidan Dogo Ekaa, the troops encountered and secured the victims who had daringly escaped their captors’ custody,” the statement reads.
It said the swift intervention highlighted the Army’s commitment to neutralising threats and restoring peace in vulnerable communities.
The rescued victims were identified as Temitope Samuel, 42 and Mohammed Sani, 40. They were immediately taken into protective custody by the troops.
“Both men have been transferred to Patrol Base Babanla, where they are receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support and all necessary assistance,” it said.
The statement added that arrangements are underway to reunite the victims with their families and facilitate their return to normal life.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mandate to safeguard lives and property through sustained, intelligence-led operations under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD,” it said.
The Army commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism and called on members of the public to continue providing timely information to support efforts against insecurity.
