Blessing Oborodudu guarantees Nigeria’s first Tokyo Olympics medal

Blessing Oborodudu beat Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold in the semi final of Women’s Freestyle Wrestling competition at 68kg to guarantee Nigeria’s first medal of the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
The Olympic Games have been a disaster for Nigeria so far with bans, suspensions, injuries and general incompetence from the nation’s sporting authorities.
Amidst all that, 32-year-old Oborodudu has been a shining light in the entirety of the tournament.
She won her semi final match 7-2 to guarantee that she will earn nothing worse than a silver medal with a loss.
Blessing, who is set to retire after the games, can win Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medal in over 20 years if she emerges victorious.
She faces the USA’s Tamyra Marianna Stock Mensah in the final tomorrow.
