Bodo/Glimt knock Inter out of Champions League; Newcastle, Leverkusen book last 16

Bodo/Glimt continued their impressive run in the Champions League on Tuesday night after the Norwegian club beat Inter 2-1 at the San Siro in the second leg of their playoff tie to reach the round of 16.
The club had already stunned Inter 3-1 in the first leg in Norway last week and needed to defend the scoreline to book a place in the last 16, but Bodo/Glimt went out to a massive away win in Italy to progress on a 5-2 aggregate score.
As expected, Inter mounted relentless pressure on the visitors to get an early goal and boost their qualification chances, but Bodo/Glimt managed to neutralise the attack throughout the first half.
It was Bodo/Glimt that landed the first blow in the match two minutes before the hour mark when Ole Blomberg fired the ball off an error by Manuel Akanji, which was parried by Yann Sommer into the legs of Jens Hauge, who tapped it into an open net.
In the 72nd minute, the Norwegian side doubled the advantage through Hakon Evjen, who calmly slotted home a through pass from Hauge, before Alessandro Bastoni pulled one back for Inter four minutes later.
It was too late for the hosts to mount a comeback as Bodo/Glimt players fiercely defended their box for the remainder of the match to knock Inter out of the Champions League.
Bodo/Glimt have defeated Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and now Inter twice in the competition this season.
In other matches on Tuesday, Newcastle United defeated Qarabag 3-2 to progress to the last 16 on a 9-3 aggregate scoreline following the 6-2 away win in the first leg, while Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiacos settled for a goalless draw.
However, Bayer Leverkusen secured the round of 16 ticket courtesy of the 2-0 win in the opening leg of the tie in Greece last week.
