The Bible Society of Nigeria said it budgeted N943 million for translating scriptures into local languages and implementing other impactful programmes to bring God’s word closer to Nigerians in 2026.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Manager of BSN Public Relations, Benjamin Mordi, on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mr Mordi said the new budget reflected a 97 per cent increase from ₦479 million expended in 2024, signalling BSN’s growing commitment to Bible accessibility and spiritual transformation nationwide.

He said ₦288.3 million was earmarked from the 2026 proposed budget for 10 ongoing Bible translation projects, including the Nigerian Sign Language Bible, a major initiative to serve the deaf community.

According to him, the project is expected to cost ₦62 million, reflecting its complexity and the organisation’s inclusive approach to scripture engagement.

He said, “₦306 million will be expended on ‘The Macedonian Call,’ a BSN intervention initiative that combines Bible distribution with humanitarian relief. The Macedonian Call program delivers scriptures along with food, clothing, bedding, and back-to-school kits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and underserved communities across the country. In the first quarter of 2025, BSN spent more than ₦148 million in fulfilling its mission of scriptural access and engagement.’’

Also, the General Secretary of the society, Samuel Sanusi, said that it cost a minimum of ₦150 million to complete any Bible translation project within the period of eight years.

He stated, “Yet we remain undeterred by the economic climate—our mandate to share God’s Word in every language remains our top priority. Our resilience, accountability, and sense of responsibility to the body of Christ drive us. As government does its part, we must do ours—in line with the great commission.’’

The BSN is a non-profit and non-denominational Christian organisation dedicated to making the Bible available, affordable, and understandable to Nigerians in their preferred languages and formats.

BSN also offers life-transforming programmes that deepen faith and discipleship.
