Emir of Daura, Faruk Umar Faruk, says Daura Emirate is proud of the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari regime, praising Mr Buhari for developing Nigeria’s economy and securing the citizens.

“He has done well to ensure peace and turnaround of the economy, and all that is within his capacity to promote safety in Nigeria. He remains a man of integrity and we are proud of his achievements.

“For more than seven years, he has been working for the good of the country. We pray that God will surround him with people that will help him,” Mr Faruk said.

The Emir’s statement comes barely four days after Mr Buhari’s advance convoy was attacked in Katsina by armed bandits, while Boko Haram terrorist seized Kuje Prison in Abuja, freeing their members and other hardened criminals.

Contrary to Mr Faruk’s claims, under Mr Buhari’s regime, Katsina, Kaduna, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara and other parts of the country have seen increased killings and kidnappings for ransom perpetrated by bandits.

Last year, Katsina governor Aminu Masari charged citizens to buy guns to defend themselves against bandits, lamenting that 10 out of 34 local governments in Mr Buhari’s home state, were under the control of armed bandits.

Similarly, Zamfara governor Bello Matawalle, a few days ago charged citizens to take up arms in self defence against bandits, lamenting increased kidnapping for ransom, killings and extortion perpetrated by bandits in the state.

On the economy front, under the Buhari regime, Nigeria in 2018 displaced India to become the world’s poverty capital, according to a report by Brookings Institution.

Though Mr Buhari in his 2021 Democracy Day speech claimed that “in the last two years, we lifted 10.5 million people out of poverty,” the World Bank Nigeria Development Update says seven million Nigerians were plunged below poverty line in 2020.

In its recent report, the World Bank said millions of Nigerians are too poor under the Buhari regime and are using “dangerous strategies” to cope with poverty.
