The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), on Monday, supported no fewer than 120 persons affected by the Sept. 9 flood in Maiduguri with food items and N10,000 each.

Distributing the items in Maiduguri, the CDD director, Garuba Dauda, said that the gesture was meant to compliment the government’s efforts in assisting the victims.

Some of the items distributed by the centre include rice, spaghetti, and vegetable oil.

“While it is impossible to replace everything that was lost, this contribution aims to show solidarity with the affected communities.

“The centre had a long-standing commitment to the North-East region since 2012, actively working towards addressing insecurity, transitional justice, and gender-based violence related issues.

“We were supposed to come earlier, but we waited for an opportunity to meet with the Governor. This morning, we came to pay a sympathy visit to the state government and see how we can support the ongoing relief efforts,” Mr Dauda said.

The director also presented a N3 million cheque to Borno government in support of the victims with other relief materials.

“Nobody planned for this disaster, but it’s the spirit with which we give that counts, not the value,” the director said.

One of the beneficiaries, Binta Babagana, lauded the CDD’s gesture, describing it as “timely and life saving.”
