Circular Road: Makinde constitutes committee on compensation payment to land owners

Governor Seyi Makinde has constituted a committee to oversee the compensation payment to land owners affected by the acquisition of lands on the first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road.
This is contained in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan by the governor’s chief press secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The statement indicated that the committee is headed by the executive assistant to the governor on security, Sunday Odukoya.
Members include the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun; Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media, Bosede Sodiq; and the Director of Administration and Supplies, Governor’s Office, A. O Kolapo.
Other members are the deputy director of Administration and Supplies, Governor’s Office, S.O Olatunde, and representatives of the Bureau of Public Procurement and Project Monitoring Agency.
The committee/monitoring team’s terms of reference include verifying the list of would-be beneficiaries submitted by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
It is also to ensure that the compensation is paid to the right people.
Mr Makinde had, on March 24, flagged off the South-East first segment (32.2km) of the 110-km Ibadan circular road project. It is designed to encircle Ibadan, the state capital.
The road, named after a former governor of the state, Rashidi Ladoja, is aimed at easing traffic flow within the city.
Owners of properties that fall within 150 metres of the Ibadan Circular Road project had appealed to the state government for compensation.
The affected landlords and property owners had argued that the circular road original gazette during the administration of the project’s initiator, former Governor Rasheed Ladoja, approved 75 metres.
They maintained that the government needed to compensate them for acquiring an extra 75 metres.
The Oyo government, following the appeal, constituted the committee to ensure that compensation was paid to the right people.
