A group, Clergy Association, Diocese of Awka, Anglican Communion, has passed a vote of confidence in Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, Bishop of Awka Diocese.

The group comprising 279 clergies in the Diocese, stated this in a communique issued on Sunday, at the end of its meeting in Awka.

The communique was signed by Ven. Godfrey Molokwu and Ven. K. Chukwukamma, Chairman, Awka Diocesan Clergy Association and Clerical Synod secretary respectively.

The clergymen dissociated themselves from what they called campaign of calumny, propaganda against Mr Ibezim and members of his family.

It stated, “We totally disassociate ourselves from the false petitions being peddled against our father in God, Bishop Ibezim and his family. We are wholeheartedly satisfied, happy, empowered and virtually uplifted under his purposeful, progressive and Holy Spirit inspired leadership. At no time have we complained, quarreled or been in overt or covert disputation, rancour, revolt or rebellion against our beloved. Our archbishop has never retrenched any worker of the diocese and we hereby pledge, absolute loyalty to Most Rev. Ibezim.”

The clergy said they stood firmly with Mr Ibezim on the sanitisation of the legal team as recommended by the peace committee of the diocesan board.

According to them, any diocese land sold was duly approved by the board and authorised by the Synod of Awka.

They commended the archbishop for executing numerous projects from 2010 worth over N10 billion.

“Archbishop Ibezim has established the Mount Zion International Retreat and Resource Centre and Millennium Printing Press, Awka.

“He set up the Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, Archbishop Alexander Ibezim College of Education Nibo-Nise and Millennium Micro Finance Bank Ltd.

“He also revamped the Diocesan Hospital, Awba in Idemili, revamped St Faiths Hospital Awka, erected new Anglican Village in Ifite, Awka with the Archbishop’s Palace and Archive Centre. The Renaissance Modern Polytechnic, upgrade of infrastructure at Paul University Awka and the Queens Convent, Awka, were other projects he executed,” it said.(NAN)
