The House of Representatives will reconvene for plenary on Wednesday, contrary to the earlier resolution to adjourn sittings until Tuesday, the clerk of the parliament, Yahaya Danzaria, has said.

The parliament had earlier adjourned following a resolution mandating the leadership to interface with the federal government regarding the delay in paying local contractors for completed jobs.

The local contractors had earlier thronged the entrance of the assembly complex, making entry difficult for lawmakers and staff of the assembly while insisting on continuing the protest for the week.

The house, thereafter, issued a seven-day ultimatum to finance minister Wale Edun and budget minister Atiku Bagudu to ensure payment of local contractors for jobs executed under the 2024 and 2025 Appropriations.

However, in a memo on Tuesday evening, Mr Danzaria stated that the decision to reconvene followed positive developments regarding the payment. According to him, the early resumption will afford the leadership of the parliament the opportunity to brief members on the progress made in resolving the matter.

Mr Danzaria  said that the house was expected to officially rescind its decision to adjourn for a week to enable proceedings to continue at Wednesday’s plenary.

By the memo, members are urged to make the necessary arrangements to be in attendance for legislative activities.
