Court remands man for allegedly defiling nine-year-old girl

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 33-year-old man, Lukman Anifowose, in a correctional facility for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Mr Anifowose, who resides at Anuoluwapo Street, Hostel bus stop, Ikotun area of Lagos, is facing a lone charge of defilement.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, the defendant committed the offence sometime in August at Ikotun, Lagos.
Mr Iberedem alleged that Anifowose forcefully had sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent.
The prosecutor said by his action, the defendant had contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, stipulating life imprisonment for the guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered him remanded in a correctional centre.
She, however, adjourned the matter until October 15 pending the issuance of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
