COVID-19: FG reimposes nationwide curfew, restrictions
The federal authorities have re-enforced nationwide curfew to help control the spread of the COVID-19 as the possibility of pandemic comeback surfaces.
The Presidential Steering Committee, PSC, on COVID-19 has restated measures to curtail the spread of the virus, one of which is imposing a compulsory nationwide curfew.
“The nationwide curfew will be imposed tonight at midnight and it will run through till 4:00 a.m. No formal restrictions on movement within the country even as citizens are encouraged to refrain from non-essential movements and comply with all non-pharmaceutical interventions and guidelines.
“People who are above 60 and or with co-morbidities are encouraged to stay at home. Only essential international travels are encouraged,” the PSC Head of Technical Secretariat Muktar Mohammed said.
The federal government said an assembly of more than 50 persons in a particular limited space has a tendency to aid the spread of the virus, hence it is discouraged.
State governments have also been advised to introduce mobile court system to punish citizens who may flout the restriction order.
In the recent media briefing, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Presidential Steering Committee Chairman, Boss Mustapha, revealed that the committee has made plans to control any surprises, including the arrival of a new variant.
“In taking this step, the PSC requests the State Governments to please step up to play lead roles in the area of enforcement and sanctions.
“Similarly, our appeal goes to traditional, religious and community leaders to take up more ownership and responsibility for risk communication and community engagement on the virulent nature of the pandemic, concerns over the variants of concern and the need for compliance,” Mr Mustapha said.
Mr Mohammed however stated that government institutions will no longer grant entry to individuals without face mask.
Other measures such a as mandatory quarantine for incomings, compulsory COVID-19 test, virtual meetings and much more have also been lined up
