Families of slain cops receive N8.07 million life assurance benefits in Yobe
The Yobe State police command on Wednesday presented N8,075,586.30 cheques in group life assurance benefits to some families of deceased police personnel.
The state Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, who made the presentation in Damaturu, said the initiative was aimed at supporting families of those who died on active service.
He said the presentation was not merely a ceremony for issuing cheques, but recognition of the sacrifices made by the deceased officers in protecting lives and property.
”When an officer loses his or her life in the line of duty or during active service, the impact extends beyond the officer to the family, children and dependants left behind,” he said.
The CP stated that no financial compensation could replace a deceased officer, adding that the group life assurance scheme provided important support to bereaved families facing emotional and financial challenges.
Mr Jibrin expressed the command’s appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Disu Olatunji, for his commitment to the welfare of personnel and ensuring that the sacrifices of officers were matched with meaningful welfare support.
He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds for the welfare, education and future well-being of their children and other dependants of the deceased officers.
The CP assured serving officers that the force remained committed to improving their welfare and working conditions.
Mr Jibrin also urged them to sustain courage, professionalism, integrity and dedication to service.
He further expressed his appreciation to the traditional rulers, sister security agencies, the media and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation.
He prayed for the protection of serving officers and eternal rest for the souls of the deceased officers.
A retired deputy superintendent of police, Tabji Chuwar, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the command and the Nigeria Police Force for the support.
Mr Chuwar thanked the authorities for remembering the families of deceased officers and providing assistance through the group life assurance scheme.
He further expressed their condolences to the families and prayed for strength and comfort for them in coping with their loss. (NAN)
