The Federal Fire Service (FFS) swiftly responded to a fire outbreak, saving property worth about N680 million at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, in Kano State.

The Controller, FFS, Kano State, Sadiq Usman-Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement signed by the service’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Al-Hassan Kantin, on Wednesday in Kano.

It said: “The service received a distress call at about 11:38 a.m. from the university’s security personnel, prompting a swift response. Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed a team of firefighters from the Federal Secretariat station to the scene.

“The incident involved an area of approximately 100 by 100 square metres at the Architecture Department where files and other materials were kept. We quickly tackled and successfully extinguished the fire through the combined efforts of the Federal Fire Service and the Kano State Fire Service, using two medium jets of water to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building and surrounding properties.”

The statement said the fire was caused by damaged electrical wiring.

It added that property worth ₦700 million was involved, out of which property worth approximately ₦680 million was saved, while the estimated value of property lost was ₦20 million.

The service said,  “No casualty was recorded, and firefighters conducted a thorough inspection to ensure there was no further risk of fire.”

It urged institutions and members of the public to ensure regular inspection and maintenance of electrical installations and to promptly replace damaged or faulty electrical wiring to minimise the risk of fire outbreaks.
