COVID-19: Fully vaccinated Nigerians to get booster shots

A dose of COVID-19 booster gives greater protection against the virus, the government said.

• December 4, 2021

The federal government has approved the administration of booster shots for Nigerians who are fully vaccinated.

In a statement issued by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Friday, the agency said the booster doses will be given to those that have completed two doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer Bio-N-Tech and one dose of Johnson & Johnson.

Executive Secretary of NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib, said any person aged 18 years and above is eligible to take booster doses at the vaccination sites.

He explains that Nigerians are eligible for the booster dose after receiving the second dose of AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer Bio-N-Tech within a time interval of six months or more, and two months for those that took Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

He said a dose of COVID-19 booster gives greater protection against the virus. He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“Consequent upon the above, eligible Nigerians are advised to visit the nearest health facility or mass vaccination site for their booster doses as from the 10th of December, 2021 across all states of the federation,” a part of the statement reads.

In November, the NPHCDA said a total of 5,770,899 people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines while 3,146,885 have been fully vaccinated in all 36 states and FCT.
