Datti Baba-Ahmed to dump Labour Party for PRP

Former vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has announced his plans to dump the Labour Party for the Peoples Redemption Party, citing internal crisis.
“I am leaving the Labour Party midnight, and I am joining PRP. PRP is the new destination. PRP is the one with a history. It’s about 75 years old. Older than its chairman. What Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is today,” the politician stated in a Channels TV interview on Tuesday.
The Labour Party has been enmeshed in a leadership tussle as factions within the party continue to clash over control and strategy.
Mr Baba-Ahmed, who described his defection as legitimate, accused the All Progressives Congress of instigating crises in opposition parties.
“We have correctly argued APC has failed in everything. We have had a government that has made its primary purpose the destruction of other political parties. We must therefore feel sorry for ourselves for the fact that many politicians have had their boats destroyed and sinking (sic).
“It is legitimate for anybody to move because the government that is so powerful has made it a point of duty. Instead of fighting insecurity and improving the economy, they destroy other political parties. I don’t blame Obi or anybody for leaving,” he explained.
The politician’s defection from Labour Party came months Mr Obi left the party for the African Democratic Congress, citing a desire to build a broad-based coalition focused on rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.
