The Delta Government has assured youths in the state of more opportunities to realise their potential.

The Chief of Staff to the state governor, Johnson Erijo, gave the assurance when a delegation of the Isoko National Youth Congress visited him at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

He said even though poverty and hunger had forced many youths to the streets with the attendant social consequences, the state government had initiated avenues for the younger generation to reach their potential.

He said, “In a bid to give youths in the state a sense of belonging, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori appointed over 70 per cent of them as commissioners, members of the state Executive Council and into other positions in government.”

Mr Erijo said the government paid the 2022/2023 bursaries to students of Delta origin in tertiary institutions across the country, while various jobs and wealth creation programmes were put in place for those not in school.

He thanked the delegation for the visit and for resolving that Isoko youths would not join the nationwide hunger protest.

He said this was in appreciation of the youth-friendly disposition of the Oborevwori-led administration.

The chief of staff promised to remain a good ambassador for the Isoko nation in government.

He reassured the youth that they would continue to be carried along in the scheme of things.

Earlier, leader of the delegation and President, Isoko National Youth Congress, Festus Edigbe, described Mr Erijo’s appointment as a great honour to the Isoko nation.

He assured that Isoko youths would remain grateful and supportive to the Oborevwori-led administration.

Mr Edigbe told the chief of staff that the youths resolved not to join the hunger protest because the present government had done a lot to encourage and support them.

He urged Mr Erijo to always endeavour to draw their attention to existing empowerment opportunities of the government so they could benefit.
