On Tuesday, civil servants in Warri South LGA of Delta said they are optimistic that 2024 would be better than the previous years.

Workers in the council resumed work after the holidays.

Ambassador Ignis, a Warri South Local Government Council employee, said the break had allowed him enough rest.

“I have resumed with vigour and renewed hope that things will be better this year than the previous years.

“The federal government is doing very well in terms of trying to fix the economy. But I will appeal that the ailing refineries in the country be fixed to alleviate the suffering of the masses,” Mr Ignis said.

Thompson Udoh, a Warri South Local Government Council retiree, expressed confidence in this administration’s resolve to improve the economy.

Mr Udoh, however, appealed that workers should resume so he could continue with his meagre contract services at the council.

“I am a retiree of this council. I retired four years ago after serving for 35 years. We have not been paid our gratuity. Now, I help people to process their marriage documents in this council and get a little commission.

“I am hopeful that this year will be better than the previous years,” Mr Udoh said.

Monday Asekutu, a Warri South Magistrate Court worker, said activities were yet to commence in the court.

Mr Asekutu, who did not rule out the prevailing economic hardship, expressed hope that more workers would resume on Wednesday.

“I hope that more workers will resume on Wednesday. It is not easy; the cost of transportation is high. Things are, of course, difficult now. But in all, I am confident that this year will be better than 2023 by the grace of God,” Mr Asekutu said.

Some NMDPRA and NUPRC staff members who were still in a celebratory mood were seen exchanging pleasantries at the office’s reception.

Also, at the NIMASA and Federal High Court, the situation was different as workers standing groups were recounting their experiences and hoping that the New Year would be better than the previous ones.
