Drug dealer found guilty of trafficking 364kg of weed

The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, on Tuesday, fixed February 27 for review of facts in a case against a defendant, Chike Agu, charged with trafficking 364.3 kg of cannabis.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged Mr Agu, 47, on one count of dealing in 364.3kg of cannabis sativa (weed).

After listening to the charge against him, the defendant pleaded guilty.

Given his plea, the NDLEA prosecutor, Ifeoma Erondu, applied for an adjournment to enable her to review the facts of the case.

Ms Erondu urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending review.

Dennis Warri, who volunteered to represent the defendant, did not oppose the application for adjournment.

Consequently, Justice Ibrahim Kala adjourned the case until February 27 to review facts and sentencing.

The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ikoyi.

In the charge, the defendant was said to have committed the offence on November 14, 2023, at the Ago Palace area of Lagos.

He was said to have dealt in 364.3kg of cannabis, a restricted narcotics, without lawful authority.

The offence contravenes the provision of section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation 2004.
