Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis goes on trial nearly 30 years after Tupac’s killing
The trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the gang leader accused of masterminding the murder of American rap maestro Tupac Amaru Shakur, commenced on Monday.
Keffe D, 63, a one-time leader of the South Side Compton Crips, is facing trial over his involvement in the fatal drive-by shooting in Las Vegas that claimed the life of Tupac in 1996.
The gang boss, who was arrested in 2023, is facing one count of murder and risks a life sentence if convicted.
State prosecutors aim to prove that Keffe D masterminded Tupac’s murder and provided the gun used to kill the rap star.
Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas almost 30 years ago, on September 7, 1996, while visiting the city to see a Mike Tyson boxing bout.
Rated one of the all-time best rappers, Tupac’s killing remains one of the unresolved murders in America’s music industry as the trial of the prime suspect resurfaces almost 30 years later.
During his lifetime, Tupac released hit songs including “All Eyes on Me,” “Hit ’em Up,” “Changes,” “Dear Mama,” and “California Love,” among others.
He was inducted posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023.
