Egypt, Kenya sign MoU to boost space cooperation

Egypt and Kenya have signed a memorandum of understanding on boosting space cooperation between the two countries.
In a statement on Thursday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President William Ruto signed the MoU centred on the Joint Declaration for strategic and comprehensive partnership in boosting space cooperation.
The agreement by the two presidents was formalised on Wednesday, with both leaders signing multiple MoUs to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
“Kenya and Egypt have ongoing space collaboration projects, including development of the African Development Satellite (Af-Dev Sat), ClimCam project under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Bartholomew programme and several capacity-building initiatives.
“The continued partnerships foster stronger diplomatic and economic ties, aligning with the African Space Strategy, which will strategically position Africa as a frontrunner in the space race,” the statement said.
As part of the cooperation, Egypt’s foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry and Kenya’s prime cabinet secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, signed a MoU between Egypt’s Space Agency and the Kenya Space Agency, focused on deepening collaboration in space exploration and peaceful use of outer space.
The cooperation is against the backdrop of a high-level delegation led by
Hillary Kipkosgei, CEO of the Kenya Space Agency, led a high-level delegation to Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency.
