EPL: Arsenal ease past Leeds United to move eight points clear of Man City

Again, Arsenal moved eight points clear of Man City on top of the Premier League table after the Gunners recorded an impressive 4-1 win over Leeds United at Emirates as they move closer to their first league title in almost two decades.
Arsenal, who last won the Premier League title in the 2003/04 season without losing any game, needed to grab every point available for them if they must scare off the massive threat pose by second-placed Man City, who are strongly coming up behind them.
They did just that thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ brace and a goal each by Ben White and Granit Xhaka to stay far up with only 10 rounds of matches to go.
Barely a minute into action, Arsenal made the first attempt at goal when Gabriel Jesus flicked the ball into Gabriel Martinelli’s path but the Brazilian’s shot was blocked by Robin Koch.
In the 30th minute, Crysencio Summerville went one-on-one against Aaron Rasmdale after riding past Arsenal defenders but the England goalkeeper comfortably saved the Dutchman’s effort before Rasmdale came through to save Jack Harrison’s shot a minute later.
Then three minutes later, Arsenal were awarded a penalty following a foul by Luke Aylinh on Jesus inside the 18-yard area which the Brazilian calmly slotted into the net to put the Gunners ahead.
In the cusp of the first half, Arsenal almost doubled their lead when goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who was metres away from his goal post, cleared the ball into Martinelli’s legs who then fired a shot from distance but was cleared off the line by Ayling’s last gasp effort.
Ben White, two minutes into the second half, roofed Martinelli’s cross from the left side of the pitch to double the Gunners’ lead before Jesus netted his brace of the evening from an assist by Leandro Trossard in the 55th minute.
Fourteen minutes from the full-time whistle, Rasmus Kristensen pulled one back for Leeds after the Danish right-back’s shot from yards out was deflected past Ramsdale before Xhaka sealed the win for Arsenal with his 85th-minute goal.
