Matchday six of the Premier League produced major drama as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool all suffered defeats, while Manchester City and Brighton claimed emphatic wins.

At the Brentford Community Stadium, the Bees claimed a big 3-1 win over Manchester United. Brentford struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes through Igor Thiago, before United pulled one back just before half-time as Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal for the club.

United had chances to level the match, but Bruno Fernandes wasted a key opportunity after Nathan Collins’ challenge denied Bryan Mbeumo a clear chance at the other end. It was Fernandes’ second big miss of the season, following a similar moment against Fulham.

The hosts sealed the win in the second half when substitute Mathias Jensen struck from Yehor Yarmolyuk’s assist, making it 3-1. The result pushed Brentford up to 12th in the Premier League table and dropped United to 13th. It was also Brentford’s first back-to-back victories over United since 1937.

The defeat deepens the pressure on Amorim, who has yet to deliver consecutive wins for United at Old Trafford. He has publicly insisted that “not even the Pope can make him change his system,” but the poor run leaves his job in further doubt. Since Amorim’s arrival, United have conceded first in more Premier League games than any other side (22), conceding 53 goals in 33 games.

Reigning champions Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace, who remain the only unbeaten team after six matches. The hosts struck early through Ismaila Sarr, who finished well just minutes into the game. Federico Chiesa levelled late on for Liverpool, but Palace had the last word, grabbing a dramatic winner in stoppage time. The result gave Palace their first home win against Liverpool since 2014.

In London, Chelsea also recorded their second loss of the campaign, falling 3-1 to Brighton after a red card changed the game. The Blues had led through Enzo Fernández’s first-half header, but Brighton turned it around as Danny Welbeck struck twice and substitute De Cuyper added another. Chelsea are now winless in three league matches.

Manchester City thrashed newcomers Burnley 5-1, helped by two own goals from Burnley’s Esteve, a double from Erling Haaland, and a strike from Nunes. Meanwhile, Leeds and Bournemouth shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
