Ex-Romanian minister detained in Bulgaria over corruption
A former Romanian minister convicted of corruption in her country had been arrested in Bulgaria, authorities said on Friday.
Elena Udrea, the former Minister of Regional Development and Tourism of Romania, was detained in a car near the Kulata checkpoint on Bulgaria’s border with Greece.
This followed a European arrest warrant issued by Romanian authorities on Thursday, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry said in a statement.
According to Romanian authorities, the 48-year-old woman was sentenced to six years in prison for corruption.
Ms Udrea committed crimes during her tenure as minister from 2010 to the end of 2011, the statement said.
