FCCPC seals Life Camp Paradise Estate’s office over subscribers’ complaints

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off the office of Life Camp Paradise Estate located at the Life Camp area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The deputy director of the Surveillance and Investigations Department of the FCCPC, Marvin Nadah, who sealed the office on Thursday, said the move was due to the estate company’s failure to comply with the notice of the commission.
Mr Nadah said the commission received various consumer complaints concerning real estate, and were against Paradise Estate Limited.
He said the commission issued a notice to the company in February, directing it to hand over property paid by consumers in the past three years, but the company failed to comply.
He noted that failure to comply with the notices in line with Section 150 of the FCCPA Act 2018, necessitated the office closure.
He said, “We are convinced of the action the commission is taking at this point as being lawful.”
Mr Nadah appealed to consumers to be mindful and careful to verify promises made by developers before subscribing to them.
Reacting to the development, the head of legal of Life Camp Paradise Limited, Aloysius Ezenwa, said the company got summons from the FCCPC regarding a petition from one of its subscribers.
Mr Ezenwa said the company filed an appeal against the decision of the commission at the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal.
”One of our subscribers, who we are not too pleased with, filed a complaint regarding our procedures and processes, as it were, at their office, and we were sent a summons regarding that petition.
”We responded accordingly, as required. The transaction that is causing this issue is well covered by the contract of sale.
”We responded highlighting all the relevant provisions of the contract of sale, duly executed by the parties at the time they entered into the contract. They said we should comply with the directive from the commission, which is at variance with the contract of sale,” he said.
Staff members of the estate company were evacuated before the sealing.
