The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital learning in public schools across the territory.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, made the commitment in Abuja on Friday, at the official handing over of 600 tablet computers to 12 secondary schools donated by MTN.

Ms Mahmoud, represented by her Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Michael Bawa, commended MTN Nigeria for the commitment to corporate social responsibility and continued partnership with the government.

She described the initiative as a “timely and impactful investment” in the future of Nigerian students.

She said that the donation came at a critical moment when the FCT Administration was intensifying efforts to strengthen its educational system.

The minister added that efforts were also ongoing to equip students with essential digital tools needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

She said, “The provision of these tablets was more than technology distribution but a direct investment in the potential of children, digital inclusion, and national development. The MTN’s support aligns perfectly with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises access to quality education and digital empowerment nationwide.’’

Ms Mahmoud further reaffirmed the full commitment of the administration to creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning in all public schools.

According to her, education remains one of the most powerful instruments for shaping the future of any society.

The Mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, represented by the Director, Department of Science and Technology, Dr Kolawole Olabashola, also commended MTN for the commitment to bridging the digital divide.

This, according to him, will promote educational development in Nigeria.

“This initiative will undoubtedly propel our schools to compete favourably with their global counterparts,” he added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the MTN Board, Dr Ernest Ndukwe, said that the gesture was to boost digital education across the country.

Mr Ndukwe emphasised that the distribution of devices reflects the company’s shared commitment to education, innovation, and opportunity for every child, no matter where they live.

According to him, MTN believes that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.

He added that in line with its national vision, MTN Nigeria procured 4,600 digital learning tablets, being distributed to public secondary schools across the country.
