In partnership with the Oyo government, the federal government launched a mobile application called the National Animal Disease Information System (NADIS) to track and report disease outbreaks among animals.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the coordinating director at the information ministry, Gideon Alade, said the software application NADIS will monitor animals’ health and detect disease outbreaks in their environment.

He added that experts were trained to use the application effectively during training organised for private and public animal health workers on Tuesday.

The training was attended by veterinary doctors from the private, public sectors and universities alongside directors of agriculture from all local governments in the state.

At the training, Olaseju Taiwo, a vet and pest control expert from the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development, mentioned that the new software has two applications that detect and report the nature of the disease.

He noted that the NADIS-mobile collects field data while NADIS-admin reports the diseases for further scientific analysis.

The vet expert said the app would enable veterinary outlets, public, private or universities, to accurately report cases of disease outbreaks in their environs, followed by a prompt intervention from the government across all boards.

“By doing so, disease outbreaks can easily be curbed before causing much damage,” he said.
