French tourist injured by bear in northern Italy

A French tourist was injured by a bear in north-eastern Italian province of Trentino, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old man was injured early in the morning during a walk in the area of Dro, north of Lake Garda, and taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Trento.
The man, who suffered injuries to his arms and legs, was taken to hospital by helicopter.
Meanwhile, he was not said to be in critical condition.
Rangers were at work trying to identify the bear.
Interactions between humans and bears are frequent in Trentino.
Last year, a jogger was attacked and killed by a female bear in the area.
Since then, the debate about the coexistence of bears and humans in the province has re-ignited.
A draft law was recently approved to curb the spread of the bear population in Trentino. It provides for the possibility of killing up to eight animals per year.
The bear population in Trentino has recently continued to expand.
Around 100 adult brown bears were suspected to be present in the area as of 2023, according to a recent regional report. .
