Riley Moore, an American lawmaker among the U.S. delegation to Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide, said he met with victims of “genocidal Fulani” militias during his visit, lamenting that over 600,000 people live in an IDP camp in Benue.

In a statement on his social media page on Wednesday, Mr Moore said, “While in Benue, I met with dozens of Christians who were driven from their homes and subjected to horrific violence and now live in IDP camps.

“There are more than 600,000 Christians in IDP camps in Benue State alone. These Christians should be able to live in their ancestral homeland without fear of genocidal Fulani.”

The lawmaker said those he met in Benue “told harrowing stories that will remain with me for the rest of my life”.

“One woman was forced to watch as they killed her husband and five children. She and her unborn child barely escaped. Another woman’s family was murdered in front of her, and her baby was ripped from her womb,” Mr Moore explained. “One man’s family was hacked to death in front of his eyes, and his arm was permanently mangled.”

On Monday, after the U.S. delegation visited Nigeria, Mr Moore said the visit was focused on a strategy to destroy terrorists and stop the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

The U.S. lawmaker commended the Nigerian government for collaborating with U.S. authorities to combat insecurity in the country.
