Ghana and Malawi have officially agreed to a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary, diplomatic, and service passports.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana.

“Travellers may transit through, depart from and stay in the territory of both countries for a cumulative period of up to ninety (90) days without recourse to work.

“The travelling public is hereby advised to take note of this development,” the statement said.

The agreement, though, took effect from February 7, 2024.

The latest development aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations and foster collaboration between the two nations.

The visa waiver regime agreement enhances bilateral relations and fosters a climate of goodwill and understanding between their people.

The move also aims to streamline travel processes, facilitate smoother diplomatic exchanges, and promote closer economic and cultural connections.

Malawi, Africa’s third-largest freshwater lake, is a natural habitat rich in wildlife, including elephants, hippos, and crocodiles.

The country’s stringent visa requirements have been a significant barrier to realising its potential for tourism inflows.
