GoFundMe appeal launched to support young wife, kids of late Nigerian lawyer Ayo Odekunle

A GoFundMe account has been created to provide financial support for the wife and children of late lawyer Ayokunle Odekunle, who died on Friday night after a battle with cancer.
Born in Nigeria before moving to Canada, Mr Odekunle discovered he had stomach cancer that was spreading fast and leaving too little time to contain when he arrived in Edmonton in 2020.
The cancer was in stage four when he passed on, as doctors said his condition had become impossible to save.
According to writer and political commentator, Japhet Omojuwa, Mr Odekunle was diagnosed with the disease in March 2022 and was projected to die from the disease in about six months. He, however, defied the medical projection for 15 months until he finally succumbed on the night of December 29, 2023.
To assist his wife Halima, and the two children, Khalil and Kamilah, he left behind, Mr Omojuwa set up the GoFundMe account(gofund.me/8e82636b) and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians for donations to the bereaved family.
Mr Omojuwa wrote, “I have only had to amplify GoFunfMe campaigns. However, today, I felt a need to set up one. In @oddy4real‘s passing, I think this is the least his wife Halima and their two kids deserve. Please support by donating and sharing. God bless.”
The GoFundMe, which was opened around 2 p.m. on Saturday, has already garnered $9,907 CAD from 134 donations as of 4:40 p.m., with a goal of $30,000 still to be reached.
