The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo has rated Governor Seyi Makinde low in terms of performance in the first year of his second term in office.

Speaking in Ibadan on Wednesday, the APC spokesman, Olawale Sadare, said the governor had performed below expectations in the last one year.

Mr Sadare regretted that the state was behind in concrete development plans and executions.

According to him, the Makinde-led administration lacks wealth creation skills, proper resource management, probity, transparency, and value addition in governance, among other things.

He said, “The first year of the governor’s second term in office has been established to be a continuation of window dressing, ubiquitous noise-making and grandstanding at the Government House.

“This is against the expected quality service delivery and building of strong institutions for democracy and good governance to thrive. Under the present administration, no key sector of the economy has received any boost, even as powers-that-be do not give room to openness, probity and transparency to allow for any objective and accurate public assessment.”

The APC spokesman added, “Governor Makinde writes examination and at the same time marks his own script and awards himself marks. The extant laws which mandate the state to subject contract awards and executions to due process are not being obeyed in the state, as everything starts and ends on the table of the governor.”

According to Mr Sadare, the governor often awards contracts before involving the State Executive Council and the House of Assembly.

“As we speak, nurses and midwives in the state are on indefinite strike, and there are indications that their doctor-colleagues will soon join. This means that all is not well with the health sector, even if we do not want to talk about the rot in public health facilities,” he said.

In the education sector, the APC spokesman noted that Oyo did not have enough teachers in public primary and secondary schools, as most had either retired or relocated without replacement.

Mr Sadare cautioned the governor against wasting taxpayers’ money on any activity relating to celebrating the first year of his second term in office.

According to him, doing so would be tantamount to rubbing salt into the wound of bad governance already inflicted on the people.
