Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has called on Nigerians to focus on rebuilding Nigeria.

He said on Sunday that efforts toward strengthening Nigeria were necessary.

Mr Sanwo-Olu made the call during an interdenominational church service organised by Lagos state ministry of home affairs as part of activities to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

He was represented by the state’s deputy chief of staff, Sam Egube.

The event, which held at Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa. Ikeja had the theme: “Rebuilders of Broken Foundations”.

He said that the theme was very apt and would spur the citizens to contribute their quotas to rebuilding any broken foundations of Nigeria.

According to him, government alone cannot build or rebuild a nation.

“Each of us must be willing to rebuild our nation.

“We should not only focus on our rights but also on our responsibilities; that is when we can assist in total rebuilding of our nation,” he said.

The governor noted that infrastructure fueled economic growth and secured communities.

“We have embarked on transformative plans to boost our economy, creating opportunities for future growth for us all,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.

In a sermon, Bishop Jeremiah Adeyemi of CMAG International Ministry charged Lagos residents and Nigerians at large to be humble, united and focused.

Mr Adeyemi took his sermon from Isaiah 58:12 and Zachariah 1: 18 and prayed that God would show mercy on Nigeria and rebuild it.

“Showers of blessings shall reign on Nigeria, and our story will change for better,” he prayed.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for home affairs, Ibrahim Layode, said that the government was determined to ensure that Lagos residents would enjoy dividends of democracy through various initiatives.

The church service was attended by permanent secretaries, the military and para-military, heads of Lagos state government agencies, students and representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, among others.

The service featured intercessory prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria, special prayers for President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet, Lagos state governor and members of his cabinet, Lagos State public servants and others.
