Governor Nasir Idris has inaugurated the dualisation of Abdulsalami Road in Jega town, Jega LGA, worth N5.14 billion.

The project demonstrated the Governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Kebbi.

Mr Idris said that progress could not be achieved in the area unless Jega “is opened up” for more infrastructural development. He assured that the funds for the project had been fully earmarked and set aside, stating that the work had been awarded to a competent firm.

The governor stated that his administration never awards contracts without the means to complete them. Mr Idris highlighted other ongoing projects across the state, including the renovation of Jega Hospital, approval for the rehabilitation of nine General Hospitals, the completion of 47 primary healthcare centres and plans for 45 more, as well as the rehabilitation of both Primary and Secondary schools.

He added that his administration was touching every sector, from health and agriculture to education, security enhancement, and poverty eradication.

The governor reaffirmed the APC government’s dedication to the people of the state and urged residents to continue supporting his administration for more democratic dividends.

The commissioner for works, Abdullahi Umar-Muslim, said the project, awarded to Habibu Engineering Nigeria Limited, was expected to be completed within 12 months.

The commissioner, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the works ministry, Sa’ad Musa-Sakaba, stated that the project involved the redesign and upgrading of the old single carriageway to a dual carriageway, complete with proper drainage and solar street lights.

“The scope of work covers full scarification of the carriageway and shoulders, filling of embankments, construction of reinforced concrete drains on both sides, access culverts, stone pitching, asphalt surfacing, road markings, and the creation of four new roundabouts,” he said.

Providing a breakdown of the project, the commissioner stated that the total cost comprises ₦3.58 billion for main works, ₦72 million for the relocation of water pipes, and ₦1.48 billion as compensation for affected structures.

He commended Idris for ensuring that only qualified and experienced contractors were engaged to guarantee quality and timely completion.
