A former councillor in Lagos Mainland Local Government, Kafayat Akinpelu, has promised to complement Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots in improving the quality of lives of the people.

Mrs Akinpelu said this at the Female Gender Support Group initiative tagged, ‘Classic award presentation/hangout of the Year,’ in Lagos.

She said that the purpose was to help women in particular to achieve their potential.

Recall that Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in June 2023 launched the RHA to empower women, youth, children and vulnerable groups.

Mrs Akinpelu said that the slogan, “We are nothing without each other’ is a reminder that the RHA by the first lady is going to be a win-win that would favour everyone of us.

“We are a supportive group aligning with good things in the society and we are resolute to the realisation of our First Lady’s vision and mission on the RHA, being our focus.

“FGSG is an initiative of love and understanding where giving is established and there is opportunity to share your views emotionally, socially, politically and intellectually. We are dedicated to helping others to bloom.

“There is no greater opportunity in life than that which allows you to help others to bloom, make life meaningful and better, because we are nothing without others.

“It is all about grooming women, delivering them from the evil cloud of suffering, oppression, violence, starvation and other forms of challenges with the purpose of getting them established in their chosen fields. We have extended hands of fellowships to some people in the community by way of supporting them to set up businesses, pay bills and attend to other needs,” she added.

She said that the awardees who are professionals from different works of life had distinguished themselves, affected lives and made meaningful contributions and impacts in society.

The classic award recognised some Nigerians, including Otunba Salisu Elegushi, the Olowa of Elegushi Kingdom, and Dr Folasade Olabanji-Oba, Vice-chairman, Ikorodu:

Ms Adeola Macaulay, great granddaughter of Herbert Macaulay; and a former Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, among others were also recipients.

According to Mr Akinpelu, the award is to recognise their efforts, to say well done for laying a good legacy and to encourage others to follow suit for the general development of the state.

Earlier, Sheidu-Shabi, who doubled as a keynote speaker at the event, spoke on the characteristics of what a real woman should be and be known for.

She commended the Akinpelu-led group for the initiative.

She stated, “A woman is a sister, wife, mother supposed to be honest, trustworthy, independent, genuine, self-reliant, have self-control, intelligent and cautious, confident, supportive, compassionate, emphatic. Check yourselves, we all know where we have missed it or are lacking, we have our daughters at home, if they are not portraying those characteristics, even if you have missed it, there is still time to make adjustments.’’

Sheidu-Shabi was represented at the event by Margaret Inam.
