Gunmen abduct lecturer, children in Kaduna

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a senior lecturer and two teenage brothers in Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria.
The abductors reportedly stormed the polytechnic’s staff quarters around 9:00 p.m. Saturday and started shooting, witnesses said.
The lecturer, identified as Atiku Bello, was kidnapped at his residence, witnesses told Peoples Gazette Sunday afternoon.
“After kidnapping Mr. Bello, the gunmen went to another lecturer’s residence, injured him with bullets and kidnapped two of his teenage children.” a witness said.
It was noted that the injured lecturer who is identified only as Mr. Sanusi is currently undergoing treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching hospital, Zaria.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the school’s staff quarters via the bushy, unfenced axis of the Polytechnic. Peoples Gazette learnt the kidnapped lecturer is in the department of computer engineering.
A police spokesman in Kaduna did not return requests seeking comments. Recent armed abductions, during which some victims were killed, have gripped residents of Zaria, leading the ancient town’s leadership to write to the police seeking additional protection.
