Gunmen attack anti-cult formation in Anambra, kill policeman

A police anti-cult formation in Obosi community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, was attacked by gunmen yesterday, leaving one policeman dead.
The command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack in a statement to Peoples Gazette on Friday.
“During the gun duel by the responding team compromising of Police and vigilante operatives, unfortunately, one police operative and a vigilante member were fatally hit by a bullet,” Mr Tochukwu said.
The police spokesman claimed the attack was averted, and weapons and explosives recovered from the gunmen.
He noted that investigation was ongoing in the area, while the fire from the attack had been put off.
The attack is the latest on government institutions and public facilities in the state by unknown gunmen.
In September 2022, gunmen attacked Senator Ifeanyi Uba’s convoy in Anambra, killing some of his aides.
