IGP Disu replaces Hundeyin with Anthony Okon as force spokesperson

The newly appointed police spokesperson was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed DCP Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin.

A statement released by the force on Sunday described Mr Placid, who was born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, as a seasoned officer with vast experience in different areas of law enforcement.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has approved the appointment of DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc(+), mni, as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

“DCP Placid, psc (+), mni, is a seasoned officer of the Nigeria Police Force with extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping,” the statement said.

Mr Placid joined the police force in 1996 as a cadet assistant superintendent of police and was commissioned in August 1998.

He has held several positions since joining the force, including the police public relations officer for Adamawa State; chief of training at the African Union Mission in Sudan; head of training and development at the United Nations Mission in Darfur; and divisional police officer in Federal Housing, Calabar, and Bakassi. 

The newly appointed police spokesperson was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to the statement, Mr Placid holds a Bachelor of Science degree in geography and regional planning from the University of Uyo and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (M.A.L.D.) from the University of Jos and studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

The statement said the new FPRO could be reached via 07031179186.

Mr Placid replaces Mr Hundeyin, who was appointed the force PRO in September 2025. Mr Disu ordered his replacement days after he was inaugurated as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.
