Former chairwoman of North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Wang Lixia, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said in a joint statement on Thursday that her expulsion was a result of serious violations of party discipline and laws.

It said the decisions were made following an investigation into Ms Lixia’s case.

It said the investigation was conducted with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.

Ms Lixia, also a former deputy party secretary of the autonomous region, was found to have lost her ideals and convictions, paying only lip service to the party’s decisions and arrangements.

The investigation determined that Ms Lixia was obsessed with vanity and had indulged in a luxury lifestyle.

“She was found to have accepted huge amounts of money and gifts in exchange for helping others secure promotions, project approvals and construction contracts.

“Her illicit gains will be confiscated, and the case will be transferred to procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
