Governor Abdullahi Sule has excoriated Peter Obi for demanding President Bola Tinubu’s resignation over escalating insecurity and other challenges ravaging the country.

Mr Sule, in an interview aired on TVC on Wednesday, queried Mr Obi’s failure to resign amid the “most catastrophic security challenges” during his tenure as the governor of Anambra.

“I think we need to be a little bit more respectful in the way we get up and talk in the guise of politics,” the politician stated. “His Excellency, Peter Obi, should have resigned when we had some of the most catastrophic security challenges in Anambra. Why didn’t he resign?”

Mr Obi demanded that the president step down from his position, citing how Mr Tinubu called for ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation and his failure to honour his campaign promises, particularly in terms of providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

“I was actually in Dangote group as a group managing director of Dangote Sugar, and I travelled extensively in the south-eastern part of the country in Anambra at the time. Why didn’t he resign then if security challenges will only make leaders resign?” said Mr Sule.

The politician branded Mr Obi’s call as insulting, berating the Nigeria Democratic Congress’ presidential candidate for attacking the president in the name of opposition politics.

“There are times when people just get up and say things in the name of opposition. You don’t just say things because you feel like saying them. It’s an insult to ask President Bola Tinubu to resign. If he does, who will solve the problem? Will the deputy or the Senate president come in and do it?” said the Nasarawa governor.
